You know those people: always energetic, happy-go-lucky, enthusiastic, and maybe even a “little over the top”.  I do and in fact, I know a few and this is their personality.  They are great to be around. However for some after a few minutes, enough is enough.

I always ask people “how they are doing?” and I receive the generic answer of good.  Learning over time, I now ask “tell me something about your day?”. Of course, you ask questions like this based upon the individual you are talking with. Typically, I see an interest in their eyes and facial expression and then, they start to share.

This past week, I asked someone who always appears as if there is nothing wrong in the universe or her world, if she ever has a bad day.  She looked different this particular day as if she was struggling with something.  Her response?  “I don’t have bad days.  Only opportunities to be taken advantage of.”

I smiled.  It was good to hear someone (other than me) share a different approach other than a bad day or dwelling on problems.  Here she was making the most of whatever was going on and changing her mindset to see an opportunity for character building; to learn again today.

We’ve heard it said that “when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade”.  I’d like to take it a step further and share that typically lemonade is made with water, lemons (always sour), and sugar.  Sugar.  Something sweet to balance out the sourness of the lemons.  Think about this for a moment.  These three ingredients mixed together allows us to enjoy a nice refreshing drink; especially on a summer’s day!

If we were to change our thought process, can we really say we’re having a bad day?  It is the difficulties that allow us to grow in our individual qualities.  So, give a few moments to thought.  What are you going through right now that you can embrace?  How can you develop who you are through the situations right now?  What do you need to take and make opportunities?
